2015 The Marigny (Roots Vineyard)
A very special wine made with fruit from my first mentor's home vineyard in Yamhill-Carlton. Traditionally made, open top fermentation Pinot Noir (115 Dijon clone), with zero additions other than a tiny amount of sulfur after malolactic. I want to emphasize that this wine has zero additions because it is a beast: 15.5% alcohol with no sulfur at crush, 40ppm after malo, and no sulfur at bottling. The high pH evens out the alcohol in the wine and makes for explosive aromatics. Sixteen months in neutral French oak, this is a truly distinctive one-off project that you're unlikely to see outside this initial offering.
