The Marigny, 2016 Old Vine Pinot Gris
Willamette Valley 12.5 ABV:
This fruit is sourced from the Mason Ridge Vineyard in the far NW coastal ranges of the Willamette Valley. Vines sit at 800 to 1000 ft. elevation and are own-rooted. This planting of Pinot Gris is original to the property and was planted in 1996. There is no phylloxera present at the site, which is a mile away (and upwards) from the nearest vineyard in the area. Fruit was hand-harvested on 10/03/16.
Fruit was crushed with no sulfur added on the same day as its pick. Fermentation was spontaneous / indigenous in a Flextank Apollo egg fermenter. The conical shape of the fermenter helped to keep lees in suspension throughout fermentation. Lees were allowed to settle post-fermentation and wine was racked after primary. The wine was again settled into the same vessel as primary for naturally occurring malo. 18ppm of sulfur was added on 2/19/16, this being the only sulfur addition to the wine. It was bottled from this same tank without fining or filtration on 2/26/17.
